I LIKE THE DRUMS!

i decided that the drum set addition puts alot more into the song and music. keeping the beat with the drums means that the guitarist can do alot more since it doesn't have to keep the beat. the drums also put more of a jazzy sound into the music with the cymbals and everything. i know it was probably difficult to find, let alone afford a drum set in the way that these people in those days lived, but it really adds to have atleast some type of percussion in with the music.

GUITARISTS

While listening to the music assigned for this week, i decided to point out certain guitarists and singers that i thought stuck out from the rest....the guitarists that i was more interested were Blind Boy Fuller, Robert Johnson, andGallis Poise. i wish i could play guitar like that!

i also like some of the singing more than others...when i heard the Carter family play, i enjoyed it more than listening to a solo guitarist sing and play because they harmonized which really made them stick out from anything else that i listened to. maybe it also stuck out because of the women that were included. i hadn't heard many women vocalists and that maybe caught my attention too.

i also found myself more interested in Gene Autry's vocals. He yodelled alittle bit and made his song stick out from everyone else's.

WHAT IF THE FOLKSONG COLLECTORS FOUND ROBERT BEFORE HE DIED?

If the folksong collectors came before Robert Johnson was killed, what would have been of Mckinley Morganfield(Muddy Waters)? Maybe he would have never been discovered as a singer/ musician and would have never gotten the opportunity to record. Maybe we wouldn't be reading the story of him today.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE MUSIC ROOTS CLASS?
I really didn't have an extreme variety to choose from when it came to the FYS classes. i think i probably got to choose between this one and two others. out of the three i think this one seemed to be the most interesting just because i have been brought up listening to many different kinds of music and why not learn about where it all came from?
IF YOU COULD TAKE 5 PIECES OF MUSIC ALONG WITH YOU ON A DESERT ISLE, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
i would want to bring some cd's probably...mostly rock/ alternative music. probably my "Breaking Benjamin" , and "audioslave" cd's...i would also bring my "Jewel" and "Sheryl Crow" cd's. for my fifth cd, i would probably bring some rap, just to mix it up alittle. a like all different kinds of music so i'd bring alittle bitof everything. i just hope that someone brings a cd PLAYER!
WHAT PIECE OF MUSIC CAN YOU ASSOCIATE WITH A GRANDPARENT?
Both of my great-grandparents are full norweigian...they are no longer with our family now, but when they were, they were very musical people. whenever we had family gatherings, my great grandma would play the piano and my great grandpa would sing. i can't pick any particular song out and give a title to you, but all i know is that it was pretty cool listening to him sing them with his strong norwegian accent.
WHAT SONG WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO REPLACE THE NATIONAL ANTHEM?
i don't even want to think about changing the national anthem, who knows what people would recommend and it's scary to think about what it would become.
DO YOU DO ANY MUSIC RELATED ACTIVITIES?
i used to play the flute in band in high school up to my junior year, i pretty much just got bored of it and quit. i've been in danceline before and really enjoyed that though.
WHAT KIND OF QUESTION WOULD YOU ASK GOVERNOR BLANCO?
i think i would ask her more questions about hurricane Katrina. i'm not very interested in government type people, i think it would be more interesting to talk about the people recovering dowm south from all that disaster.
